we had a lot of work ahead of us. You can see from the photo album we were faced with a lot of broken trees and flooding. We removed all of the dead trees and rented a commercial-grade chipper to grind them up. The wood mulch does help some in keeping down the weeds. We lost two trees in the orchard and so we put in five new ones. We now have two of each: apples, pears, cherries, plums and peaches. We even got some fruit this year!
As usual, Henry (the buck that lives on Poundcake Farm) was very busy this fall and we welcomed two new fawns. The mothers seem to trust us and are always leaving the babies very close to the house. We're very careful with the dogs and don't let them close. I was able to get a few nice photos of the babies without scaring them.
One morning just as the sun was coming up, I saw two does in the pond (it's actually a large drainage puddle that doesn't go away until mid-August). They were romping with their babies. I wasn't able to get pictures of the babies in the pond, only the mothers. I could also hear Henry snorting nearby. |
